vacation highlights: the zoo!

Our only big "plan" for our Florida vacation was to spend a morning at the zoo. We thought Natalie might be at an age where the animals would intrigue her, and it seemed like a good excuse to wander around behind the stroller for a few hours.

We were right! The zoo visit was a resounding success. Natalie was in awe of so many of the animals, especially the birds.

We got to get up close and personal with some giraffes, but Natalie actually seemed relatively unimpressed with them. We were just a few inches away, close enough to reach out and touch their fuzzy snouts, and she acted quite oblivious.

We also got to see rhinos, jaguar, cheetahs, spider monkeys, macaws, and more. The zoo was pretty small, but there was lots to see & it was so sweet to watch Natalie discover new animals for the first time. It has made reading to her even more fun as we check out illustrations of the same animals we saw in real-life and explain "that's just like the giraffe we saw at the zoo!"

The highlight of the zoo for Natalie was the children's exhibit, which featured a huge outdoor aquarium and touch tank, and a petting area with goats, armadillos, and alpacas.

It was a great family outing, and felt like a preview of the years to come. I can't wait to show Natalie more new things as she continues to become even more aware and interested in the world around her.
