shower the people you love with love

Last weekend Mike and I made the long drive to Schoharie for the last time before Baby MooHoo gets here. It was hard to believe that the next time we pass by all those landmarks along the highways we'll have a baby girl in the back seat! We made the trip for a baby shower graciously hosted by Mike's dad and stepmom in their beautiful home. We got to spend an afternoon with so many of the people we love, many of whom we had not seen since finding out our big pregnancy news almost 8 months ago!

Perhaps the biggest highlight of the shower was being surrounded by so many other pregnant women! There were five of us total, all at different stages of pregnancy. Our due dates range from March to July, for two of us it's our first baby and for the others this pregnancy marks baby #2. I definitely feel like I'm in the middle of baby boom, and it makes pregnancy so much more fun to be able to share it with other women who are experiencing the same joys, frustrations, excitement, and exhaustion. I've gotta say, we're a bunch of pretty hot mamas!

It was such fun to visit with friends and share not only our joy over baby girl but also the town where Mike grew up. Many of our shower guests were high school friends of Mike's who are also from Schoharie, but for others it was their first glimpse of the little town where the fabulous Mike Cherry originated. His parents were such open hosts, welcoming not only the whole troupe of our friends but also my family into their home. They, along with Mike's stepsisters, helped to make the day incredibly special.

Of course, I can't write this post without noting how generously gifted Mike and I were! We got SO much baby stuff, it was overwhelming. All of our big essential items (crib, changing table, stroller and car seat set, pack'n'play, bath tub, activity mat), loads of baby care must-haves (lotions, bath sets, bottle brushes, diaper bags, health care & safety items), and more adorable baby clothes than I have ever seen in my life! Moohoo is going to be one well-dressed little girl, and she can probably do about 4 costume changes a day and still have plenty of extra clothes for her first few months! It was so fun to oooh and aaaahh over all the cute gifts, especially little things like socks, sunglasses, hand-knit blankets, and hooded bath towels. I was left pretty speechless by the incredible amount of stuff we received from our thoughtful friends and family. We definitely had a full car on the way home!

But, my personal favorite part of the shower? The food! Mike's dad (in typical fashion) decided to err on the side of caution and order food for 100... despite only having 30 shower guests. This suited me just fine, as it meant I could have as much pasta, garlic knots, and cake as I wanted.

We've been back home for a week, and we still haven't quite figured out how we're going to find room for all of our new loot in the house! The baby's room looks like we robbed an entire Babies'R'Us store. My goal over the next few weeks is to slowly start making the nursery perfect for our little girl. Despite being tired most of the time, when it comes to folding baby clothes and putting together nursery furniture, I have a renewed sense of energy. Nesting, perhaps?

Thanks to everyone who helped to make our shower so wonderful! It was great to see you all, and we can't wait to introduce you to Moohoo in just a few weeks!
